Interview with a top mod

Comedy sometimes writes itself - and unintentionally. This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. It's called an interview with a top mod. It's amazing. Perhaps because it's not played for laughs. It's deadly serious.

Muscle Shoals in The Independent

Not all doom, gloom and Cheryl Cole in the morning papers, there's a rather tasty feature on Muscle Shoals in The Independent.

It celebrates 50 years since the studio was set up, as well as looking at the man behind it, Rick Hall. There's also a few words from Dean Rudland of Ace, which is planning an extensive reissue programme of material recorded by Hall in the studio in its heyday.

eBay watch: Generation X book

We have featured this before when it's landed on eBay, but as it's long out of print and always popular, we'll flag up a 'new' copy of Generation X by Charles Hamblett & Jane Deverson, which has just landed on the auction site.

One of our five must-buy mod-related books, it's a vox pop of teens in the years 1963 and '64, originally intended for a magazine, but as the views were a bit too much for Woman's Own, they ended up in a book.

This one is described is having no 'noticeable flaws'. £2.45 is the current price, but note that you'll have to factor in postage from Canada.

The Birds live in Leeds

The band started playing live in 2010 once more,  but in June, there's a rare chance to see The Birds 'up north' with a gig in Leeds.

Of course, the cult '60s R&B are much changed from the band pictured above, with just vocalist Ali McKenzie flying the flag for the original line-up the rest of the band made up of the Small Fakers (who you might know from their Small Faces act).

Anyway, much of the material is culled from the 1960s sets (most of which features on the must-have The Collectors' Guide To Rare British Birds album) and as a bonus, you get a support set from the Small Fakers themselves. DJ support too, all of which takes place at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on Saturday 25th June. Tickets on sale now at £10 each.

1960s Yale USA t-shirt remade

If the t-shirt above looks familiar, it's probably because you own a copy of the Mods book by Richard Barnes, where it is featured at least a couple of time within the book. Actually. it's also showing at the Reading Steady Go exhibition too. Anyway, the main point here is that this Yale USA t-shirt has been remade.

The wonderfully-named Watch The Cloth Moth has remade it, with the t-shirt available to order online in the colour scheme above in sizes S M L XL XXL. No idea if it's limited, so you might want to get in quick if you fancy it for summer wear.
