1960s Rave Magazine issues on eBay

Rave_mags

They're becoming ever-more collectable, so investing in some of the issues of Rave Magazine on eBay might be a shrewd investment.

One particular seller (cactuskay123) seems to have a number of issues of the 60s teen culture magazine, as well as a number of issues of Beat Monthly and allsorts of memorabilia of the day.

Prices aren't cheap though, although you can pick up the March 1967 issue above (which features a Steve Marriott/Crissie Shrimpton photo article) for £18 on a Buy It Now. Check out all the magazines for sale via the link below.

According to the blurb, it's up to 50 per cent off and after a quick look, that actually is the case. The classic Fred Perry polo shirt above is usually £60, but right now it's available for £30, which sounds like a deal to us.

Wind of Change (1961) heads to DVD

Windofchange

I'm still amazed about the number of films I've never heard of getting a first-time release, especially when they sound as interesting as Wind of Change.

A 1961 film, but actually set amongst the late 50s race riots in Notting Hill, Wind of Change is described as 'a gripping kitchen-sink drama' focusing on the relationship between a father (Donald Pleasence) and his rebellious, unemployed son Frank (Johnny Briggs). Frank is a 'bigoted racist' who believes the black immigrants are taking all the British jobs, though he doesn’t seem too concerned in trying to get one himself. When Frank and his teen gang beat up a black man who later dies of his injuries, he must face the consequence of his actions.

Very much in the 'Absolute Beginners' era, Wind of Change is available from 24th August 2009, but you can order now on Amazon for a bargain £8.78. There's a bonus flick on there too called The Traitors (1962), but that's described as an 'espionage film', so we're not expecting much from it.

Marks & Spencer Colour Block dress

Colour block dress

Marks and Spencers are never going to be the first port of call for youthful fashion, but it's a great stop for the young looks of eras gone by. This Colour Block Sleeveless Dress is another example of how their backwards looking designs can look fresh and fun today.

With an obvious mod aesthetic, this simple A-line shape with a mid-thigh hem provides an easy to wear option. The thick straps and high neckline add that girlish mid sixties feel, while sleek straight lines in the block monochrome print add a mainstream mod edge.

Get yours from Marks and Spencer now for £45.

Jump The Gun 60s-style raincoat

Raincoat

Not sure what it's like where you are, but it's pretty much been throwing it down here for almost a week now - which makes it the ideal time to pick up something like the Jump The Gun 60s-style raincoat.

It is what it says it is - styled with an early 1960s look (think Harry Palmer), with no fussy belts or detailing, aside from the usual pockets, but with ample size to keep you (and your suit) covered from the elements.

Three colours available, the blue above or a grey or black, along with plenty of sizes. It retails for £125. Alternatively, keep an eye on vintage and charity shops, these kind of raincoats do occasionally come up, often in really good condition too.

The Specials live CD giveaway

Specials_live

Yesterday we mentioned the free Specials track to download, now we hear that a full album is being given away - in this weekend's Sunday Times (12th July 2009).

According to the newspaper's website, a 12-track live CD will be given away, all the tracks recorded live at the Brixton Academy during the recent gigs there. if that's not enough, there's also an 'exclusive' interview in the newspaper's magazine too.

Which means it might be worth getting up a little bit earlier this Sunday and beating a path to the newsagents - it's certain to be in short supply.

Peter Sellers' 60s Mini up for auction

Mini1

One of the most famous Minis ever made will go up for auction this month - and for the right price, you can own Peter Sellers' Mini, made famous in the original Pink Panther movie.

It's not just any old movie Mini either, this one was made for Sellers himself, commissioned from the exclusive coachbuilders, Radfords, offering very un-Mini-like features including leather seats, Wilton carpets, a walnut dash, a host of extra instruments, chrome window surrounds and its famous 'wicker work' paint job - hand-painted lines to give the effect of basketwork. Apparently it cost roughly the same as a Rolls Royce back in the early 60s!
