1980s Euro mod gallery back online

Another gallery is back online - this time the one we had of mod from around Europe in the 1980s.

It was online a few years back, but like many others, was lost during a changeover to a new layout, but all the photos from then are back in the new gallery now. If you want to browse them, follow the link below or hit the Gallery button on the site to view these and all of our other photos.

1950s scootering photos

Big thanks to Michel for forwarding across these 1950s scootering images, which actually feature his parents.

Although pre-dating the mod movement, Michel points out that his parents were scooter riding youths from French and Italian families, who were 'always dressing really clean' and 'always going dancing'.

Mod wines by Grateful Palate Imports

We got an email today from LA-based designer Dave Bravenec, tipping us off about his latest project - the design for the Mod wines by Grateful Palate Imports.

As you can see, the bottles (and see over the page for cartons)  produced for the Australian wine company feature a stylised, almost psychedelic image of a mirrored-up scooter, with the slogan 'I don't want to drink any other wine, that's why I'm a Mod!' on the rear.

In the first instance, the wines will be distributed on bottles of both red and white, with varations of the design heading to various other vintages over the coming months. We think it's Australia and the US-only right now, but it will eventually hit the UK. if it makes it to Tesco's 3 for £10, we'll be buying it by the box load. Miss Goldie podcast at Daptone

Looking for something lively and interesting to download to your PC and/or iPod? We would like to recommend the Miss Goldie podcast at the Daptone Records website.

According to the site, Melbourne-based Miss Goldie spins two weekly hours of funk, soul, northern and R&B on PBS Boss Action, all orginal vintage 45s of course. The podcast condenses a selection of tracks down to just over an hour - perfect for the daily commute or to keep any home workers away from Radio 2 weekday hell.

Old photo galleries back online

After some detective work, I've finally worked out what happened to the 'old' photo galleries that some of you might recall from a few years back on this site.

Basically, due to some technical problems, all the older galleries were lost - some were 'found', while others have been offline for a period of time. Last week I tracked the remaining photos down, although it will take some time to convert all to format the photos.

The first two galleries are now back online - the 1988 rally season and the Hayling Island photos. Others will follow over the coming weeks, so keep checking back. Of course, if you have any photos old or new, we'll be happy to feature on the site - just drop us a line and we'll talk you through how to get them to us.

Peter Sellers' 60s Mini up for auction

One of the most famous Minis ever made will go up for auction this month - and for the right price, you can own Peter Sellers' Mini, made famous in the original Pink Panther movie.

It's not just any old movie Mini either, this one was made for Sellers himself, commissioned from the exclusive coachbuilders, Radfords, offering very un-Mini-like features including leather seats, Wilton carpets, a walnut dash, a host of extra instruments, chrome window surrounds and its famous 'wicker work' paint job - hand-painted lines to give the effect of basketwork. Apparently it cost roughly the same as a Rolls Royce back in the early 60s!

The book is published on 31st August 2009, the work of award-winning photographer Horst A. Friedrichs, wh has spent more than a decade recording the modern-day British mod community, travelling all over the UK, attending allnighters, weekenders and scooter cruises to take his snaps, of which 70 colour and 70 black and white feature, complete with 'real-life descriptions' of what contemporary modernism means to each of the people captured.
