Back once again is the Fred Perry x Tootal scarves collaboration, with two designs fresh to the shelves.
As before, you get a mock of design, the polka dot above in what's described as a black and maroon colour combination or a geometric pattern (pictured over the page) in a navy blue. Both designs have a plain back, tassel detailing, dual branding and a silk and wool construction.
Highly limited, both are available for £49 each online. Of course, you can always go vintage instead, wearing out the shoe leather in charity shops or checking that famous auction site - there are 168 on eBay right now.
Ok, here's some advanced warning for you - The Who will release Quadrophenia: The Director's Cut as a limited edition boxset on Monday November 14th 2011.
Yes, an all-new version of the 1973 album, which is perhaps why the band is considering taking it out on tour again. What do you get? You get a re-master of the original double album, Pete Townshend’s previously unheard demos including songs that didn’t make it onto the original album, an exclusive eight track 5.1 sound DVD, a deluxe hard-back book, previously unseen personal notes, photographs, memorabilia and 'other exclusive material' that will be announced over the coming months.
To accompany the box set, double vinyl, 2-disc digipak and digital versions will also be released. See over the page for a shot of the boxset so far. Amazon is already doing pre-orders for the box, selling for £70.99.
If the name is familiar, it's perhaps from the Max and the Lost Note book or indeed, from the essential The Ivy Look book, both of which he authored. Well, staying on that 60s jazz/modernist tip, Graham Marsh has a new book on the market soon, specifically Coast to Coast Album Covers: Classic Record Art from New York to Los Angeles.
It looks at the album artwork of jazz releases during the 1950s and '60s, specifically bringing together the labels that are perhaps overlooked in favour of Blue Note's efforts. We're talking the Prestige, Atlantic, Contemporary and Pacific and Riverside Labels, brought together for the first time,
The imagery, the typography, the graphics, the style and the colours, all the things that made this sleeve art so distinctive back then and indeed, today. 240 pages long, the book is ray for your coffee table on 3rd August 2011, discounted to £10.19 on eBay right now.
These are always popular, so for those of you looking for some 'new' vintage in their wardrobes, there's a number of new Velvet Cave dress auctions just getting underway.
By my reckoning, 42 dresses have just gone up for auction, all hovering around the 1960s / early '70s era and on various sizes. The one above is a mid-60s number, a blue and grey op art patterned textured vintage polyester dress with small pointed white collar and matching cuffs.
Just had an email into the Modculture inbox flagging up go-go dancing classes in London. In fact, there's one tonight if you can get down there.
The ladies at Sugar Blue Burlesque claim 'it's the workout craze taking the world by storm'. But as they're running the class, they probably would say that. They continue: 'The wild, upbeat music is guaranteed to get your toes tapping in this energetic class, and in no time you'll be doing the Monkey, the Wahtusi, the Swim, the Hully Gully, the Mashed Potato, the Twist and many more!'
If that appeals to you, you need to wear 'loose, cool, comfortable clothing 'and 'comfortable shoes you can dance in' (go-go boots optional!). Also a towel and a bottle of water. It's also 'suitable for all levels of fitness'. You'll find it at STD2 Dance Studios, First Floor Studio, 346 Old Street, London EC1V 9NQ, London every Monday from 6:30pm. Price is £8 per class.
